Re: Shaun's Bodging Bench Version 3
Many thanks for the kind words, folks, as always I very much appreciate your interest in my builds.
It is a shame when a lot of internal detail is rendered invisible but a modeller prepared to build this excellent kit up as, say, an aircraft undergoing maintenance could really produce a show stopper as the kit provides more than just the basics. As it is I have saved some parts from the interior, both plastic and PE, for possible use on other models where the parts could masquerade as this and that - I'm not averse to using parts from a WWI fighter on subjects as diverse as a modern jet or even a military vehicle.
Anyhoo, a quick update. I have now attached the struts and aligned the upper wing and this is the part that I usually find the most difficult when building biplanes. Eduard has at least provided struts that are not just nicely detailed but, more importantly, are all the correct length and fit as they should - alas it has been my experience that there are a few kit manufacturers who provide struts that are neither! The task was still a little fiddly but the quality of the struts made the job that bit easier than I've experienced with other biplane kits in the past:
The upper wing is not permanently attached and is being held in place purely by virtue of the positive location of the struts in its lower surface. I've managed to check the model from various angles and, as far as I can tell, all is good regarding alignment. I'll now remove the upper wing, add a few more details and then proceed to painting.
Thanks for looking.

Re: Shaun's Bodging Bench Version 3
looking good, it is nice when the struts are the right length and the locating pins are also at the correct angle so positive locating is easier. i found the pins on the ends of the interplanes too long on the revell kit so will need filing down a bit before final fitment.

Looking extremely good Shaun - and if that is a dry fit you should not have problems fixing the top wing permanently. Now about cutting away side panels etc to show all of that lovely interior detail..........

Very impressive, Shaun! A superb advertisement for Eduard biplanes!
And your skills, and patience, of course!

Many thanks for your kind words, guys. Unfortunately progress will slow even more than usual as my elder sister's health has deteriorated somewhat over the past few weeks. She has a diagnosis of advanced vascular dementia together serious kidney problems and COPD and is now on an end of life home care package. She is really very frail and myself and her two sons are helping where we can.

Thanks folks, your words of support mean a great deal. We're taking it one day at a time, she's a tough old bird but, of course, none of us are immortal. Coming on here is a welcome bit of escapism at the moment.
