The major components are all pretty much done. There remains some cleaning up of seams and the fin and tailplane are only sitting in place, I’ll fit the horizontal tailplane unit once the painting is done.

Looks good Tony, it is a fair sized beast isn't it - mine seems a lot bigger on the shelf than the Tornado GR.1 parked next to it.

I really like the tailplane.

Thanks Stuart. This will replace the OOB version I have on my jets of the 50’s and 60’s shelf - it only just leaves room for the Meteor NF12 and Lightning F3.

The Firestreak missile with ‘noddy caps’ have printed - I made enough for 2 on this FAW9(R) build, 4 on the FAW6 and a couple of spares. I’ve drawn the fuse windows in CorelDraw, for printing on to decal paper.

Whilst waiting for sample aileron to finish printing, I thought I would improve the detail of the extended flaps and also create ‘drooped flaps’ (ie with hydraulics off the flaps could drop with gravity).
Firstly the slightly improved ‘down flaps’:

I am designing ailerons just now. They will have the hinge details but be set at 4deg up, it is taking a little while to get the shape correct.
As soon as the ailerons are fixed in place it will be time for primer! I need to come up with a methos of masking the cockpit whilst protecting the rather delicate upper console for the nav. I am considering a combination of blu-tac and, possibly, the canopy, suitably masked. I am still thinking about making a vac-form canopy though.

Those flaps look good Tony, I do like the idea of the drooping flaps.

Thanks Stuart,
I’ll not be using them on this build but one of the others - for sure.

I am presently designing the inboard pylons for the fuel tanks. The pylons were canted outwards partway down by 15 deg to prevent the U/C doors striking the fuel tanks. Sounds easy enough - but so far I am struggling. I am going to ‘clean sheet’ the design.
The printer is presently producing what I hope is the final iteration of the deflected airlerons.

I think I’ve managed to create the pylon, it took 4 ‘clean sheet’ drawings a bit of lateral thinking, but in the end it was very straightforward.
The what I hope is final iteration of the deflected ailerons have finished printing so they are about to be ‘cured’ and test fitted.

I am printing the pylons now. Having checked that the ailerons were satisfactory, I added the hydraulic actuator covers.

The ‘up ailerons’ have been fettled and fitted and the fin attached - it needs some filler (perhaps later but probably in the morning).

It does seem like a great deal of effort but …….

Fin secure and filler applied. Rub down in the morning.
