1/6 Tamiya Suzuki GSX1100S Katana "Finished"
Another build to be started.
Sticking with the two wheels but in the bigger scale of 1:6.
As per usual, the box and its contents.
The box.
The destructions.
The plastic.
The tyres, lenses and metal parts.
The decals.
There is some very good plating in this kit, especially the chrome, but as per normal I will be stripping it all and painting my own way.
I very rarely do the paint scheme of the box art, but this time the silver is really the only true colour for this bike.
I don’t intend to do much in the way of modifications or extra detail, but I say that every time and things never work to plan.
Time to get acquainted with the kit, an update when progress has been made.
Thanks

Oooh, The Katana. The god of all bikes in the 80's (according to alot of my mates anyway, I prefered classic British bikes) I keep seeing this kit at work and am very tempted, but have to keep reminding myself how many kits I already have.
Looking forward to following this build.
All the best

What overall length does this come out at? It sounds large from the mere suggestion of 1/6

Re: 1/6 Tamiya Suzuki GSX1100S Katana

Thanks for looking in people, I will try to not disappoint.
My 1/6 scale CB750F was 14" long and 9" high.
Thanks
Alan.......
No measurements given, but as Kingslug says, 14 inch would be very close.

Thanks for popping in folks.
I'll do my best to make you get one Greg...
Not ridden one, but did have a later version of the GSXR1100F as a street fighter.

Re: 1/6 Tamiya Suzuki GSX1100S Katana
Some progress has been made, albeit very slowly.
The first thing I have done is to remove the plating from all the parts except mirror lenses and the lights backing plates.
The kit has you build up the centre stand around the mounting bracket which is part of the frame.
As the two parts are going to be different colours I want to keep them separate and be able to fill the joins on the centre stand halves before painting, so some modification is needed. A tried and tested method i have used before.
The mounting bracket that is part of the frame was cleaned up.
The mounting pins were cut out and a 2mm hole drilled through the mounting flanges. A piece of 2mm brass tube was cut to length and inserted. I can now fit the bracket to the frame and slide the tubing in when the centre stand is ready for fitment.
The ends of the brass tubing will be covered with some hex head rivets eventually.
Next, I wanted to get the frame assembled. I went right through the instructions and found a few brackets that were being added to the frame at later stages and to be painted the same colour. I decided to fit these right from the start, which also allowed me to fill the joining gaps before any painting is done.
4 off those brackets were the engine mounts, I did make sure I could still get the engine in place after the brackets were fitted and all seems okay.
I also installed the support brackets for the battery holder ahead of what the instructions show. The battery holder will still fit through the frame.
The frame and swing arm are all assembled and ready for priming.
There are 14 off moulded in bolt heads for the engine mounts and brackets, these I have drilled out and removed, which will be replaced at a later date with some hex head rivets. Also included were 2 off bolt heads on the rear indicator brackets.
Thanks

Re: 1/6 Tamiya Suzuki GSX1100S Katana
making a good start it is worth taking the extra time to cut the moulded nut heads off and drill out for hex rivets as they look so much better than just painting them
