Thanks John!

My kit decals are shot, but I have the Model Alliance Coastal Command sheet that has a fine-looking TB.1. So, my first question is this: What would I need to do to turn the Airfix kit into a TB.1?

Basically an open bomb bay is the only major difference as far as I can see. I'll have a look and post a few pics of my Valom TB1 this evening to see what the differences are. Valom do a bomber to TB1 conversion kit too:

Great to have you onboard (good to see you at Telford too). As for 'illegal GB activities', I'll try to keep the beatings to a minimum

I believe there is also a change to the lower gunner station but it is internal; probably due air blasting into the open bomb bay.

I'm here, dug out the kit from 'The Stash', and fondled the plastic, feels nice yum, yum. I'm not sure of scheme deffo bomber command, I'll have look in Bombing colours and do some google searches and see what takes the fancy. Gets a bit addictive though looking at schemes...

Cheers

One of those "It was meant to be" moments, just saw the kit in question on the advert board in Tescos, drove round, picked it up and I'm in.

OOB builld, Swedish decals I think...

After reading Jim's post (ref to BM thread), I can see I was wrong in two respects, although one still puzzles me.

My original source said something about gunner station and 12in at the frame, but I couldn't understand it -- I doubt the author did either because it communicated nothing. Thanks to Jim's post (the BM thread), I can see that the gunner station floor was raised for fin/torp clearance. (I am not sure the valom conv kit takes that into account, nor possibly does it's own TB1 kit).

Anyway, the raised gunner station tended to give the impression the bomb bay doors hung below the fuselage, which now I see they didn't. One source I have says that a "center section" was removed, but after reviewing the BM thread, I don't see that at all. So, I now think standard bomb bay doors; not sure about the articulation representation.

Thanks, Jim, great info !!

Nice find, Jim - thanks! I think the most useful photo from my point of view is the one in post 12 that shows the torpedo being loaded.

Might have to dig out my Barracuda kit to rob it of the torpedo!
