VFR Models Cessna 150

Post by TeeELL »

The Cessna 150 series is the fifth most produced aircraft. It is a staple of flying clubs known for its stability.

I learnt to fly at the Cumberland Flying School, Carlisle in Aug/Sep 1969 and the Cessna 150 was the trainer they used. Models included early ‘fast back’ models through to new ‘J’ models and it was a one year old ‘J’, G-AWTX in which I flew my first solo.

The VFR model allows models from the early ‘fast back’ through to the ‘K’ model.

As with the previously reviewed PA-28, the kit arrives in a substancial corrugated cardboard box:

Inside are the instructions, laser printed transfers (for just 2 aircraft) and the kit. The smaller parts are packaged in plastic bags, as is the vac-formed canopy parts.

The major options are the rear fuselage (2) and fins (3) although different UCs with and without spats are included.
The parts are 3D printed and require very fine sprue cutters/razor blade/razor saw and assembly by cyno.

There is an interior and advice to check the instructions before fitting - these light aircraft models require significant nose weights and ‘fisherman’s tungsten putty is recommended. Other than that, construction looks straight forward with a fairly small parts count.

My plan will to build the aircraft in which I flew my ‘first solo’, trouble is I can find no period photos of the aircraft so the livery and colour will be pure gusswork.

Interesting, thanks for sharing. Fascinating what is being done with 3D/resin, and in this case, the apparent quality of the kit, instructions, etc.

Thanks Tony. How good are the clear parts?

James,
they look about what you would expect for vacformed, they certainly look OK. I am a bit surprised they only supply one though!

Thanks for reviewing that, Tony. Kit looks great. I'll keep an eye out for it. So few of these common civil aircraft ever get kitted out.

Looks like I will be spending some coin with VFR. I too have stick time in 150/152's plus time spannering on them. Pretty sure I saw a Piper Cadet in their range. The only type I have done the whole flight hands on in, from taxy out to shut down. If they do then I will definitely be getting one.
Many thanks for the review Tony.

All the best

Very cool, I like that you can do the early high back models.

Looks good. I have the Bandai release in the stash. Except for around 10 hours in Piper Cherokees my remainder student time was 150/152’s.
