Ready and waiting for this - I've picked a copy of this Revell kit which is apparently a reboxing of the Special hobby kit. I've not opened the box yet but if Mike's review is anything to go by it should be a nice kit.
Roll on the 16th.
Cheers!

My kits are ready to go- I just need to decide which one will be first on the bench.

Re: DeHavilland Vampire GB *** On 2023 GB Calendar ***
My first build ever, on UAMF (way back in 2007, I think), was a Swedish vampire. It would be interesting to go full circle and build another one, since I lost that kit some years ago.
Only question is which kit to go with. Probably one of the Special Hobby kits in 72. But then maybe the new 1/48 airfix kit would be fun too. Help me decide and I'll order something.

If you want an easy life, the Airfix kit will be a much easier build, but if you want to save space, go with the SH.

I've decided on the Special Hobby Vampire Mk 1 for my first build, one of the options was built in Lancashire where I live.

I built the Revell boxing of the SH kit maybe four years ago, and don't recall major fit problems.i went with SH and ordered an MK I, with the short tails and decals for Swedish markings.PaulBradley wrote: ↑September 2nd, 2023, 9:03 pm If you want an easy life, the Airfix kit will be a much easier build, but if you want to save space, go with the SH.

Nice! Mine will be Swiss.
I didn't say the SH was hard, just less easy! The Airfix 1/48 kit just falls together. When I built my SH, I had to pay more attention.

I'll probably pick up the Airfix kit at some point, but I'm having ambivalent feelings about 1/48 again, especially since I agreed to condense some of my display space during a recent remodeling of the shared office/craft room. I traded a wall of open but very dusty and ramshackle open shelving for two more.professional and adult looking glass enclosed displays, so space has become more of a premium for only the latest and greatest builds.

imo the old Heller/Airfix FB5 is still a good kit and can be bought fairly cheaply
Transfers are usually RAF 112 Squadron and a Swedish one

That was the kit I built for my first presentation on the old UAMF. It was a decent kit, but the SH kit is really nice, and cost about the same on eBay

The best I might come up with on this, is a ‘what-if’ but even that is a very low priority.
