Re: Hasegawa 1/72nd Sd.Kfz.7/1 Flak 38
Many thanks, Stuart, I'm glad you like it.
And now, finally, it's done. For many reasons, mainly a hectic work schedule, this build progressed at a glacial rate, even by my slow standards, but I'm glad I saw it through. I got a lot of satisfaction from trying to make this oldie look as good as I could but it remains one of the most inaccurate kits I've built in a long time - not so much the half-track, save for the abysmal OOB tracks, but the gun, which was largely a figment of the kit designer's imagination!
Weathering has been kept light, as is my usual practice particularly for braille scale builds and decals are also minimalist being limited to vehicle registration plates only. The decals did behave very well, however, with no breaking up in the water shenanigans and settled down nicely with an application of Microsol red bottle followed by a coat of Aeromaster flat.
The base, although not specifically for this project, is also finished and I'm pleased the modifications I made worked out as I think they have made it much more practical with more space available to display finished models. I hope Splash, who donated the base to my cause, would be pleased with what I have done with it:
And finally here are some shots of vehicle and base together:
As it might have looked in the 1940's when, as all we modern people know, everyone only saw things in black and white
Many thanks to all of you who have followed this build and made comments along the way.

Turned out great Shaun. Scratch built details really add up in the end.

I built mine straight from the box Shaun so I can see how much better yours is. Love it, and the base too.

It may have taken a while but great result on both the halftrack and base Shuan. Totally worth the effort! I can't imagine Splash being disappointed in the least.
Knowing what the base was originally made for makes you realise how huge this beastie was!

Many thanks, folks, your comments are much appreciated. The Sd.Kfz.7 was properly big, Ben, certainly as big if not bigger than many medium tanks such as the Sherman and Mark IV and the Sd.Kfz.9 FAMO (named after the design company, Fahrzeug und Motorenbau GmbH of Breslau) was even larger. I wonder what they were like to drive?

Really nice, Shaun, and inspiring to see a so-so kit turned into something special. Thanks for sharing it with us!

That was well worth the wait, Shaun. Your additions have really lifted the kit to the next level.
Would ya like to learn to fly? Would ya? Would you like to see me try?
