I would go along with that as well; some civilian options (either as specific or coincidental subjects) would also be good. How about a more abstract theme such as 'rust'...
I have been thinking about abstract such as getting away from the historical context which is automatically limiting.
One that crossed my mind was "Amphibious Operations" - just anything tied to that not just another D-Day.
I had another thought and lost it, just something generic.

I know I've always argued for focus, but these anniversary GB's are just plane limiting. We need to open up to creativity.

I would be interested too
+1 for a car group build.

There are so many choices for an automotive GB from daily runarounds to vintage / classic to racing cars to possible trucks as well. Well worth doing I think.
It's only pain, work through it.

Pick a colour/color, eg anything red, or yellow, or blue, or 'abandoned/forgotten', 'named for insects'
I think we've had 'animals' not very long ago

One of the strong potentials already for next year is a weather/climate related GB - there are many cars that would fit that theme.

One of the issues is that many of us are primarily aircraft modellers - that is just the way it is; you know that from IPMS. But many themed GBs in an historical context have plenty of scope for non-aircraft builders if a little creativity is applied. An Operation Dragoon GB - just to randomly pluck an idea that was recently suggested - could include aircraft, tanks, military vehicles, ships, figures, even cars - civilian vehicles operated by the Resistance, for example. Thinking about it, the Berlin Wall GB idea has even more scope. As you say, it just needs a little creativity.

Ah, but a number of us predominantly aircraft builders have also built vehicles, iggie, Tony, me for example.

Me, too, but aircraft are my primary focus. I do build other things but it has to be compelling- as John says, a creative idea.

John’s idea of “Amphibious Operations” has me on Google already.

Thread Revival Warning!

Looking back through the GB suggestions in the GB chat area, it seems there is enough interest (ie minimum 8 positive responses) for the following GBs to be up for consideration for 2024:

1. Weather/Climate named subjects, GBL TeeEll
2. C-130, GBL Stuart
3. Did Not Finish (but will now!), GBL TeeEll
4. Aerobatic Teams, GBL iggie
5. Road and Track, the civvie vehicle GB, GBL AndrewR
6. Sherman tank et ses derives, GBL PaulB
7. Characature Kits GB, GBs flakmonkey, JohnRatz

This is definitely a good start and a nice variety. It also leaves space for two or three more GBs; a suitable Single Kit GB could be in the mix for one of those spots. As always our two Blitzbaus are additional.

For a Single Subject GB I politely suggest The (Blackburn/Hawker Siddeley) Buccaneer. Any scale, any make of kit

I've added the Characature Kits GB to the list, leaving two spots open.

I think the last time this one was done was 2018. Five years may be too close. A F-5 Group Build. All types, all nations, any scale or manufacturer.
