1/570th RMS Titanic: sinking diorama
My Mother was an ardent follower of all things Titanic, and the primary reason I got interested too! Then back in 2004, I decided to use the 1/570th Revell model kit and build her a lighted static display for Christmas; it was started, but about 3 months into it, Mom passed away unexpectantly... so did my motivation for the kit, and it was boxed up and put in the closet.
In 2016, I re-visit the box, and upon seeing the partially built kit, the yearning to complete it returned; this time in memory of Mom, but instead of just a static build, I decided to indulge all my imaginations and skills to create a life like diorama of the sinking as it was happening; sparing no expense in detailing to make it as realistic appearing as possible.
The ship was cut into a waterline configuration, and poised on a simulated ocean surface "down by the head to the name and listing starboard". I re-worked the deck walls and scratched transparent windows, opened doors, PE stairs, ladders, and rails, in addition to fiber optics with LED lighting. The interior walls were thinned so the light would show through to the outside underneath a deck light so it creates an illuminating affect; this was also done on the base of the funnels. There are an accurate number of scratched lifeboats in the water and being launched to depict the situation at 1:20 am, which includes 1,366 PE passenger figures on the decks and in the boats.
Lights glaring on the ship and reflecting on the water surface created a very surreal atmosphere. One viewer responded by saying; "Really, we are all on those decks now... waiting"

Astounding!

If you can walk away from a landing, it's a good landing. If you use the airplane the next day, it's an outstanding landing

Wow, what an stunning piece of work - especially since you started with that rather mediocre Revell 1/570 kit.
Astoundingly good!

Incredible! So lifelike that it is genuinely eerie to look at. You have very much done your mum proud with this!

Re: 1/570th RMS Titanic: sinking diorama
Thank you kindly everyone!
The quandary I had near the end was deciding if the passengers should be attached before or after the rigging.... I done the passengers first because I didn't want to be reaching the tweezers through strands of stretched sprue, knocking them loose. It worked out fine that way.
Here's a couple pictures made during the build...
A viewer said to me one time; "How do you know there are 1,366 figures on that build?", to which I replied; "Because I put a dab of Elmer's glue on each one and let it dry, then painted each one either black or brown and let it dry, then painted a life vest on each one and let it dry, then removed each one from the tree, and super glued each one on the decks and in the boats." The "pile" of passengers never seemed to be getting any smaller! lol
