Civilian Vehicles GB 2024 ** FORUM OPEN!**
The Civilian Vehicles GB option is doing extremely well in the genre poll at the moment, so I'd like to open up a discussion on what form this should take.
Keep it as a general GB, or go for a more specific area, such as Sports Cars or whatever?
I'm not generally a car builder, but I have a few ideas for interesting projects, which would fit several different categories.
I do have the Revell Blower Bentley in the stash, for example

Re: Civilian Vehicles GB 2024
Given the nature of the builders - I'd keep it general. As it is I only have one - a 80's rally car (I forget which), so if it goes ahead put me down as a possible.
Stuart Templeton I may not be good but I'm slow...

Re: Civilian Vehicles GB 2024
FWIW, all of my kits are 1/32 and late 19th - early 20th century - that's a pretty narrow range of interest.

Re: Civilian Vehicles GB 2024
I would go with a more general scope given that it's not often we do anything like this as a GB...
Does Lady Penelope's FAB1 count? Or Bond's autogyro? Or even Wallace's Anti-Pesto van?

Re: Civilian Vehicles GB 2024
Well I would count an autogyro as a flying machine personally I think it depends on if "fictional" vehicles are allowed for the other two. I'm not trying to prescribe anything as yet, just gauging interest and the type of builds people have in mind.

I have a couple of cars in the stash. If you keep it general I will be able to take part.
Best wishes

Re: Civilian Vehicles GB 2024
Coincidentally I've been thinking of doing a car kit and in particular Italeri hae a couple of Italian rally cars in their range so my leaning would be towards this theme. However I accept that thas can be a bit limiting so I would suggest any civilian or racing car from a certain period e.g. 1960's to 80's whatever people may want.
It's only pain, work through it.

I'd be up for this if a motorbike or traction engine qualifies

Those are interesting - I forgot about two motor cycles and I have a 1/35 Foden steam tractor that could be done up civilian , I think.

Re: Civilian Vehicles GB 2024
What about something like: dream cars - i.e. cars you wish you owned or may have owned.Or a hotrod theme. Just trying to brainstorm some themes that would broaden the scope. My car stash is 1/24 exclusive and the overwhelming majority of it is 1970s JDM. I'd be unlikely to build outside of my interest (sorry, I'm one of those people who chooses GBs based on overlap with my stash, not expanding my stash to join GBs) but a broad-ish theme could provide plenty of interest seeing how different people interpret it.

Re: Civilian Vehicles GB 2024
It looks like a very broad scope GB would be most popular, judging by the comments so far. This is fine with me.

Re: Civilian Vehicles GB 2024
It seems that almost everyone is immediately equating vehicles with cars whereas a look on Wikipedia shows that a "civilian" vehicles GB would have a pretty wide scope.
A vehicle (from Latin vehiculum) is a piece of equipment designed to transport people or cargo. Vehicles include:-
wagons,
bicycles,
motor vehicles (motorcycles, cars, trucks, buses, mobility scooters for disabled people),
railed vehicles (trains, trams),
watercraft (ships, boats, underwater vehicles),
amphibious vehicles (screw-propelled vehicles, hovercraft),
aircraft (airplanes, helicopters, aerostats) and
spacecraft.
Personally I'd prefer something other than a car such as a motorbike or even a truck (Revell AC/DC truck in the stash) but think maybe exclude aircraft, ships and spacecraft as these either get good coverage elsewhere or deserve their own unique GB.
Perhaps a good old poll is required?!
