It’s that time again, just later
Looks like our first couple storms, FRANKLIN and IDALIA, over next few days, neither big but both acting weird - one may pull a DENNIS and wrap back in on us. The little ones are sometimes the worst for shoreline damage, but we should not have to put storm shutters down which is good.

Good luck John, stay safe!
Best wishes

We have elevated to Tropical Storm Warning for Thursday - wind and rain will be bad on Thursday but we are really on the fringe.
We always hope the warnings keep the visitors out of the water to reduce the risk to our ocean rescue people.

We have water companies who do that over here by putting sewage in it....JohnRatzenberger wrote: ↑August 30th, 2023, 2:26 pm

Annette has been checking on friends in the path from Florida upwards, also some of our favorite dining & watering holes.

Well, for us, it's over - calm & sunny today, storms are frolicking out in the Atlantic somewhere - I think there are 4 right now.
On thing has been a constant - the red No Swimming flags are back again and we expect may remain for a couple weeks.
It's not an "abundance of caution" but the very real rip currents along the shore that take a number of uncareful people or would if our ocean rescue folks weren't there - but that only lasts through September as many are going back to college.
Love the Beach, Respect the Ocean.

From someone who lives next to the sea and who's daughter sails regularly - those are very true words John.
I'm glad to hear that you've avoided the worse, although my heart goes out to those in the badly affected areas.

All the others cleared away, but here is TS Lee - predicted to be a Cat 4.
The model tracks are 10-day, early/late, in short spaghetti flung at the wall, but show there is a chance that it will bend north about day 5 -- sorry Bermuda -- but depending on a lot of things, could easily swing westward about that time. We are truly alert for the first time this season -- that's us on the tip of NC's nose sticking out into the Atlantic.

Hurr LEE has continued her northward turn taking her away from the US East Coast, but now pointing at eastern Canada, Nova Scotia, etc.
But she is still very dangerous and capable of high winds and very rough seas -- as far off as she might miss by, we can expect strong wind gusts, increased swells, rip currents, severe wave damage, beach erosion, and related effects through the next weekend. The bad part is that most of our Ocean Rescue crew went back to school, so we have a very small crew spread along 10 miles -- and too many idiots who think Red NO SWIMMING flags make great souvenirs.
