RIP Iain Ejsnotgrass

Post by chrism »

I am still coming to terms with this, and for past 24 hours have been hoping I read something wrong .... but other messages have appeared now, and so it seems

Iain has died very suddenly over weekend

He had been ill for past few months but was only chatting with me days ago and arranging things to meet up in November

Oh, no. That's just awful news. I always enjoyed meeting him at Telford and was looking forward to seeing him again. I enjoyed his sense of humour. It won't quite be the same without him there.

RIP, Iain.

I never had the pleasure of meeting him but he helped me out with decals a couple of years ago and that was off his own back. It left me with a very good impression of a really nice helpful man. RIP.

Oh no! I just read a PM from Beany and was hoping it wasn’t true. Iain was the life and soul of our shows attending both SMW and Huddersfield many times. Always ready with a modelling anecdote from his local club. Though he didn’t post much in recent years you always knew he was there because as soon as anyone needed spare decals Iain was the first to reply. Always fun to be around he will be greatly missed by those who knew him.

I can only echo what James has said above, Iain was part of the fabric of the CBK as far as I'm concerned. Admittedly it took several show before I got the hang of his accent but Carrie and I always enjoyed chatting with him, not least because all three of us had worked on the railways and had a common bond through that. Just looking on Facebook there are already so many tributes from his friends and family so I know his loss will be dearly felt. I am actually relieved in some small way now that I can't attend SMW this year as I think I would have found it very emotional looking at our table and not seeing him their.
RIP Iain, our friend.

Oh, no. That's awful. Iain was such good company behind the tables, and as James says, a foundation stone of the CBK SIG. He was always just there, happy to chat about this and that, always enthusiastic for a peek at new plastic vintage or state of the art. And he was so friendy when Jack joined us back in the day, equally happy to chat about planes and trains with the wee lad as he was with us old fogeys. I shall miss him every time I sit behind a table at a show, or in the Telford pub of an evening...

RIP Iain.

Sad news indeed.
Probably a bit early for such suggestions (if so, apologies) could a small space be put aside on one of the tables at SMW for a selection of his models as a tribute? If practical.
I wish, that I knew what was doing!

This is indeed sad. While never meeting him in person, we did some kit swapping very early on after joining this site.

I never met Iain personally and haven't corresponded with him for many years but it's still poignant to read of his passing.

I never did find out the meaning of Ejsnotgrass?

I think I recall him explaining on one of the forums (not sure if here - I think he also used to be on ARC and maybe a few others), a really long time ago. That's just it, I never knew him well, but I've know OF HIM for what feels like a long time. It's sad to see more and more of the guys who were there when I first discovered forums, leaving us.

RIP, Iain. :(
