Re: Airfix Scammell with enhancements
In the first few photos of this thread you can see the front axle unit. Today, I wanted to fit it in order to fix the ‘perch bar’ rear support in place - can I find the front axle? No, surely it is too big for the carpet monster to manage.

What you need to do is print a carpet-monster eating machine...
Best wishes

It is totally ridiculous, it was sat by the body - as seen in those photos. I had no reason to move the thing but it has vanished.

Re: Airfix Scammell with enhancements
Since the front axle has disappeared, I have been getting on with one or 2 other bits of the construction. The rear tow hook unit has been glues into place as has the air-filter body (the square flange sits about 0.5mm away from the bonnet side panel). In the photo, the perch-bar pivot is visible, I can’t fit tis until I’ve a front axle - which has just finished printing.
I have trimmed the front end of the chassis but not fitted the towing hook because it is easier to do the front axle temporary fit without it. Easier to fit and remove the long temporary pivot pin.
Perch-bar pivot fits approximately in this position.

Re: Airfix Scammell with enhancements
The front axle is fitted in place using the long pivot pin:
My axle pivot hole needed drilling out with a 1mm bit, as did the pivot hole in the perch-bar.
Fit the per-bar pivot support in place and, once square and true, apply CA between the ‘outer wings’ and the chassis.
Finally the front axle can be removed and sacrificed to the carpet monster - or set aside for painting.
When it comes time to permanently fit the front axle, the short pivot pin is used.

Re: Airfix Scammell with enhancements
The undersurface of the tractor has been airbrushed with Hu102. In a masterstroke of total dumbness, I completely forgot to do the front axle assembly! Doh!!! Maybe the carpet monster got it ……………

Top marks for your enhancements Tony. They're really dressing the kit up nicely.

Re: Airfix Scammell with enhancements
Thanks CCR.
First thing, I airbrushed the inside faces of the front axle and, because it dried quickly, I was able to mask the body and then airbrush the ‘Light Stone’; this mix takes a goodly while to harden off, even though it was thinned with cellulose.
I now need to work on the trailer - quite difficult as I’ve no instructions!

Re: Airfix Scammell with enhancements
I have removed the seriously over-scale glazing bars. Instead, I’ve made the bottom panels with a centre pillar it will gain its depth using a couple of layers of paint. The upper opening screens have had their edges masked and painted to make the appearance of the frame.
Just a work to the wise:
Have you noticed that the supply of ‘clear plastic’ is gradually vanishing from all the items that used to have it - yoghurt lids, etc etc.

Re: Airfix Scammell with enhancements
Flakmonkey,
the trailer, for which I have no instructions, is a resin print early ‘goose neck’ 30-ton unit; it bears no relationship to the version in the Airfix kit (copies of those instructions I have in abundance). I have found and downloaded the instructions for the 1:35 scale Thunder Models trailer which is the same style of ‘goose neck’ type - from Scalemates. I hope that referring to those plus photos of the resin kit’s designers model will enable me to get things right.

‘MOLLY’ is starting to gain identity. The correct serial number (H4611614) has been applied as has the saltire recognition cross.
