Hello from an F-86 enthusiast
Hello from an F-86 enthusiast
Hi,
A belated hello from me. I'm something of an Airfix oldie, having made my first (Seahawk IIRC?) back circa 1969. I'm more into resin kits these days but did get involved in the production of Airfix's 1/48 Sabre 4 and have now built a few in various guises!
Fingers crossed 2024 will see me finally finish my XP-86 project...
Probably.

Hi and welcome to our little bit of cyberspace. The F86 certainly is a great aircraft. I still have my very ancient Matchbox one in a box someplace. Couldn't resist that Arizona ANG scheme with the big yellow snake. I have some F86 kits to go at, 1/72. One to change into the two seater.
Incidentally, don't know if you watch Star Trek, but Michael Dorn, the actor who played Warf owned and flew an F86 as a personal aircraft. And iirc currently flies a Saberliner.
All the best

Yes I know about "Worf". And sadly that 'yellow' snake should be copper in colour.Gregers wrote: ↑October 21st, 2023, 10:42 pm Hi and welcome to our little bit of cyberspace. Re: Hello from an F-86 enthusiast
This is my take on the #2 TF-86, based on the Airfix 1/48 kit:
Re: Hello from an F-86 enthusiast
I wasn't aware about the colour of the snake being different. I may repaint my old one, But on saying that I have a Hobby boss Sabre, and a spare set of Matchbox decals so I may make a new one and correct the snake.
Thanks for the info.

Addendum. That is one sweet looking TF86.

Re: Hello from an F-86 enthusiast
The colour error comes from an earlier Aircam profile, so Matchbox aren't entirely to blame. The 197th FIS AZ ANG were nicknamed 'Copperheads' (after the snake) and the colour was first used on their F-51Ds.

Re: Hello from an F-86 enthusiast
Welcome aboard SabreJet. Great work on that two seater TF-86, never seen one of those before. I've built a few Sabre's in 1/72 scale and found myself down that 'Sabre wing' rabbit hole so it will be good to have an F-86 aficionado onboard.

Re: Hello from an F-86 enthusiast
The F-86 wing issue is best resolved via photo evidence. The #2 TF-86 is a case in point: my model shows it during a quite brief period when it had the narrow-chord, short-span wing installed. Later in life it received other versions of the F-86 wing, and so these configurations often correspond to different variations in colour scheme.
With luck we'll soon have a narrow-chord F-86 in 1/48 anyhow.
