Another excellent completion VV, under duress and against the clock
Best wishes
Jim
If you can walk away from a landing, it's a good landing. If you use the airplane the next day, it's an outstanding landing

I doubt I could build that in a week to that standard.

That is a great looking Pup, VV, particularly given the speed with which it was built and IMHO this is one of Airfix's best biplane kits of the 70's
Doing - Tamiya 1/35th Universal Carrier.

Great work VV. I see you are of the IKEA Detolf storage clan - no longer available in the UK, though I scored one off FB Market place. I must admit that even using pre-cut masks, I was beginning to loose the plot, with my Mk1 Blenheim canopy.

Been away so missed the action on this. Lovely model - and yes the kit is still very good given its antiquity.
BTW it is very good indeed to see a real aeroplane made to such a high standard so quickly - a good example for others on this forum!

Re: Sopwith Pup (almost blitzed) - Airfix 1/72
Thanks everyone. It's nice to finally have a Pup on the Sopwith shelf. I had one in the Biggles display but not amongst my actual historical models.
I haven't made a WW2 aircraft in a long while and I really am not loving the canopy masking. I'll get back to it soon, but I definitely needed a break.
The rigging seems to put most people off, which is a shame. Once you do a couple of biplanes, you realise rigging isn't that much more complex than masking or detail painting or any of the other exacting jobs we do as modellers.
I love the detolf. I had some custom shelves made and mounted them using cable clamps so I've doubled the display volume in there.

In your defense, it was a bit of a blink-and-you'll-miss-it eventLone Modeller wrote: ↑November 21st, 2023, 7:54 pm Been away so missed the action on this. Lovely model - and yes the kit is still very good given its antiquity.

Super bit of quick modelling.

Cheers, gentlemens.
I was clear of covid symptoms after 2-3 days thankfully. Fighting fit now.
Probably not, unfortunately. The day is flat out with end of year concert stuff.

I really don't know how you do these so quickly and so good - that would take me months and still look like it was done by a 3 yr old!

Re: Sopwith Pup (almost blitzed) - Airfix 1/72
Key factors:
Fast-drying paint (Vallejo)
Shortcuts, like a simple and effective woodgrain method with acrylics, or pre-attaching some of the rigging before wing mounting
Visualising any roadblocks and planning out the build so that long processes like filler curing happen overnight
Experience/practice (especially with rigging)
An acceptance that "near enough is good enough" for most things because I'm not out to win model contests
I could have actually built this one a fair bit quicker but I backed off the pace for the sake of maintaining family harmony. If I had a 24h period with absolutely zero responsibility for anyone or anything else*, I would tackle the Roden Gotha G.V. if for no other reason than to prove to myself (and others) that it is possible and encourage fellow modellers to break free of AMS and build in the kind of time frame we did as kids
Of course, that wouldn't include lozenge decal. It would need to be a uniform paint scheme.
* My wife _hates_ blitzbau month because she feels that I'm not doing my fair share of parenting/chores/etc. So I am careful not to push the envelope too far and stoke too much disharmony.

Lovely Pup VV, and an impressive biplane collection.
