A couple of Pink Spits – PR IG, St. Eval, 1941 & FR IXc, 16 Sqn, 1944
After last year’s Lidl’s Christmas giveaway, I seem to have amassed a number of Spitfires (I would say surplus to requirements but we all know the saying!), so with that in mind I decided to convert one into a PR IG. I say convert, its clearly just a Mk Ia with 3 extra holes and painted pink, I know the canopy isn’t correct and no doubt various other things that I decided would be best if I didn’t delve too deep.
For some reason I decided the real aircraft wouldn’t stay pink for very long and thought it would be a good idea to ‘dirty’ it up a bit – I won’t be making that mistake again!
The second one is a masquerading as a FR IXc, which I’ve tried to make slightly paler, again with the wrong canopy and whatever else I don’t know about – thankfully I don’t get too concerned if its not 100% accurate, close enough is good enough for me! Incidentally, if anyone knows of any aftermarket PR canopies I’d be interested to know.
This was originally intended to be red X but at the point I realised I didn’t have any red X’s small enough it became white V – luckily, I had pictures of both.
Paints are Hataka brushed on, decals are a mixture of Airfix, Xtradecal and Fantasy Print Shop.
Thanks for looking - last of 2023.

We frequently see Spitfire, but not PR types. These look extremely good to me, (and I too am ignoring canopies and other rivety details), - I really do like to see familiar types in less well known markings. PR types played an important part in the WW 2 from 1939 onwards.

Very elegant, both of them
Best wishes

Nice little conversions there - I picked up three Spit's from Aldi this year with similar things in mind.
Stuart Templeton I may not be good but I'm slow...

Thanks LM, its a shame there aren't more PR types out there, although I notice Sword have produced one for a PR Spit that is currently being restored. The pilot was one of the many executed by the Gestapo following the Great Escape.Lone Modeller wrote: ↑December 20th, 2023, 5:56 pm We frequently see Spitfire, but not PR types. Fully agree in the role PR played in WWII and every confilct since, undoubtedly countless lives were saved in Afgahistan by the Tornado's over-flying the MSR's and Taliban compounds.
Thanks Jim.
Cheers Stuart - surprising the effect a 3mm drill bit and some clear spruce has.
Thanks Paul.
Cheers Andy.
Thanks Nigel.

Very nice!
I've just done a pink Spitfire myself, and am in the process of rescuing/converting another to a Pr.IG version.

They look pretty enough to me
All models are equal. Some models are more equal than others.

Nice! I wanted to do one but was hoping for an FR version. No one makes one in 1/48? You did a splendid job on them! Resparked my interest!

I love the pink Spitfire!
I did this PR Spit a while back, but if I had known there were pink ones I'd definitely have chosen that scheme - I like your version better than the one I did. Well done, sir!

Thanks Tim, I like your Swedish version. I've got one very similar on the go now.Tim Reynaga wrote: ↑January 20th, 2024, 4:53 pm I love the pink Spitfire!

It's a shamw PR kits seem to be more expensive, I've settled for drilling a few extra holes in the basic kit and ignoring the rest!
