Abandoned...

Post by iggie »

I bought the base kit for this ages ago, intending to use it as a guinea pig for various rust effect products. The kit is the Heller 1/43 Peugeot 203, which although not massively detailed, goes together well enough and has worked out OK for my purposes...

That's been left by the seaside for far too long! Nicely done. 8-) The rusting on the front left side looks most convincing to me, with a bit of paintwork still showing through.

What do you use for the meadow grass on the base Jim? I'm fairly new to diorama acessories and could really use something like that.

I'd say that experiment has been very successful, Jim, that looks like a car that has stood outdoors for many a year!

Cheers all 👍
The only thing that didn't work entirely as planned was adding a coat of matt varnish over everything; the water based varnish reacted with the previously applied rust effects, and changed the colours a bit from how they'd been. Otherwise, it worked out fairly well

The grass is 6mm 'static grass' applied using a homemade applicator; both the grass and applicator are readily available from ebay, and make a big difference to any scenic base I think. The 'grass' is available in lengths from 2mm upwards and in a huge variety of colours and shades, so will work for 1/72 upwards. The clumps are simply the same stuff, set into blobs of glue...
Best wishes

Thanks for the info Jim! I'll have to hunt some of that down. I've got some of the clumps already - didn't realise it is the same stuff.
