Martin R's DD Mossie
Re: Martin R's DD Mossie
Well, whaddaya know? 2 nights in a row modelling. Things must be looking up at work . . .
Nacelles now glued securely to their respective wings.
Re the fuselage, I glued the pilot's seat to the cockpit floor then stuck in some sheet and square tubing behind to make a split level parcel shelf and give the nav somewhere to sit. That seems to have gone OK. Got the radios still to make, but these will just be literally black boxes. IP has had the surround taken off and that's gone in as well, painted black.
I drilled a hole in the aircraft's belly and in went a piece of plastic tube to take the brass rod that'll support it in the diorama. Finally, I glued together the tailwheel halves, painted the resulting tailwheel assembly and installed it in the rear fuse.
So, tomorrow I just have to build and add a couple of radio boxes, dry-brush the IP to lift out the detail and then it should be OK to close the fuselage halves. That would be nice!
The only thing is, I'm then away with the family on hols for the rest of the week. I'll try to post some pics before going away.
regards,
Martin

No modelling tonight - packing and getting the car ready.
However, here's the box art:
Marvellous!
However, here's the artwork that the Mossie will actually be part of:
Very nostalgic for me!

Martin

Here's the wings and nacelles:
They went together quite quickly (well, given that I started on Thursday-ish, that's not bad for me).

And here is the fuselage:
Tailwheel and IP in different halves. You can also see the untrimmed mounting for the stand:
Here's the basic cockpit structure:
Mounted in the fuselage halves. See; it does fit! A couple of radio boxes still need to be added. There should be one (Gee controller?) behind the pilot's seat, and one on the 'parcel shelf', which should add a bit of interest:
And here's 'the Management', who also fit:
Finally, here's a prop blur behind a spinner. Thanks, Jim:
No more till I return next weekend. Have fun, all.

Martin

Re: Martin R's DD Mossie
I'm back! Cockpit side walls, insert and IP painted; fuse joined; tailplane and wing / nacelle assemblies on. Beginning to look like a Mossie!
Needs some further cockpit interior detailing, crew painting and general filling / sanding. Photos to follow, hopefully.

Martin

Hi,
Post above now updated with pics.
Work issues still intruding on modelling time. Hopefully I'll be able to grab an hour or so over the weekend, but it depends. Still, situation should have resolved by Tuesday, so I'll have a decent shot at getting paint on by the end of the GB.
regards,
Martin

Great stuff Martin I'm looking forward to seeing this with some paint on. Work can be a PITA sometimes, hopefully I will be able to get on with something myself this weekend!
Doing - Tamiya 1/35th Universal Carrier.
Work is the curse of the modelling classes!

Re: Martin R's DD Mossie
Thanks, chaps.
I drilled out the cannon troughs on the under-nose insert last night. I need to stretch some plastic tube to make the cannon barrels tonight. I should also get the chance to start painting the crew.

Martin

I hope I can do the Roy Cross artwork justice!
Stretched tube cannon barrels added to the cannon troughs and the insert is now glued in place. The airframe joints have also been given a fairly comprehensive layer of filler.
If I can finish some work early this evening, I want to bodge up a couple of radio boxes for the cockpit and start painting the crew.
regards,
Martin
Re: Martin R's DD Mossie
Hi folks,
Nothing done on the interior but a sand-fill-sand-prime-fill-sand cycle has been completed and 4 coats of Medium Sea Grey have gone onto the underside. It'll need a couple more coats though. I hope to have the basic camouflage finished by the end of this build.
For some reason, I can't get interested in 'scratching' the radio boxes and painting the crew. Can do that later, though.
regards,
Martin
