What flew over your house today?
Re: What flew over your house today?
Had a Chinook over this morning, so low I could almost climb into it.

More Chinook activity, going North
Then, later, another (or this one) going south, but too low for a shot.

Re: What flew over your house today?
Admittedly we had to move location for this but it had to be done in view of the events of 80 years ago. PA474 did a tour of Lincolnshire Bomber Stations this evening after going down to the RAF Museum at Hendon. We drove up onto the Wolds to the site of the old RAF Kelstern and were rewarded with an almost overhead pass as she came over.
The weather was not great, in fact it started to rain a few minutes before she arrived but thankfully the crew were able to stick to their intended route and pay their tribute according to plan. It was quite a moment when we first heard her climbing up from Holton le Clay (ex RAF Grimsby) and very moving as she came into sight after doing flypasts at Binbrook and Ludford Magna.
To all the men and women of RAF Bomber Command, we thank you for your service and your sacrifices. RIP

If you can walk away from a landing, it's a good landing. If you use the airplane the next day, it's an outstanding landing

Today I was walking around the Bamford Edge area with the local Ramblers group. Having reached the Ladybower Reservoir dam we climbed up and onto Bamford Moor for our coffee stop. You get a excellent view of the Ladybower reservoir below you with the Derwent dam in the distance. Almost immediately, a pair of hawk trainers in formation flew below us along the reservoir followed a few minutes later a pair of RAF C130s also in formation passed over the dam. You never have your camera out! Considering the news about the future of the RAF C130s it may be a day to remember.
Certainly made you think of the 617s famous operation of 80 years ago If trying to get into the action a few minutes later a tiger moth passed overhead. Not a bad tally for a 10 minute coffee stop.

Re: What flew over your house today?
To be fair, my ‘house’ is presently moving around the canal system. However today, much to my surprise, an Avro Anson flew directly overhead. A check on Flightradar24 confirmed it as a T21 operated by Air Atlantique.
Unfortunately steering a narrowboat precludes grabbing a camera (even if I’d one to hand), but my ‘First Officer’ did catch a distant shot:

I forgot to report that, the other day we were negotiating the ‘Hack Green’ lock when a Strikemaster flew over G-SOAF. Once, some one and half decades ago, it was one of the aircraft I used to fly to various airshows.
Couldn’t get a photo because I was on land operating the lock with no camera.

An Anson and a Strikemaster - both of those would be great to see.

Re: What flew over your house today?
Just catching up. We have RIAT this weekend so the local skies are a little busy. Yesterday lunchtime a P51D held over Highworth waiting clearance to land at Fairford. There was lots of other activity but too distant to ‘claim’ although another P51 flew over later in the afternoon. Trouble is, I’ve windows that give me views towards Fairford, Lechlade and to the east but aircraft noise is deceptive and I have to try and identify the ‘right window’. I get it wrong more often than not due to the acoustics of the estate. :(

What I would dearly love to do is to build a clear cupola in the roof of the house, then I could just rush up there when I hear aircraft noise...

Re: What flew over your house today?
Wasn't quick enough to get pictures, unfortunately, but a most unusual sight over sunny Leicestershire today. First, a USAF MC-130J followed 30 seconds later by a V-22 Osprey, both at very low level.
Ten minutes later, they reappeared,in close formation and the C-130 had its buddy refuelling line extended. Another ten minutes passed by, and there they were again, in exactly the same formation on exactly the same heading and track, again at very low level.
EDIT: Tracked the V-22 until it went out into The Wash, and the MC-130J landed at Cardiff airport, of all places. Looked like it was going for St Athan but it went into Cardiff. Certainly was not expecting that.

RAF Rivet Joint just flew over, heading back in to Waddington after a lengthy sortie to Lithuania, Latvia and Estonia...

Without getting political, this is a good example of retaliation at a time and place of our own choosing.
Possibly.
