Barry's Sikorsky HO3S-1 1/72 MPM * Finished *
Re: Barry's Sikorsky HO3S-1 1/72 MPM
Well done on the ingenious detailing. I find that helicopters seem to bring out the detailer in most of us, due to that expanse of (potential) clarity.

Thanks for the tutorials on (a) how to avoid or sort out fogging when using superglue and (b) how to make mesh back seats. Really great work Barry.
Doing - Tamiya 1/35th Universal Carrier.

Re: Barry's Sikorsky HO3S-1 1/72 MPM
Well, here's my little aaarrrggghhhh moment. I opted for a grey interior and was going to achieve it simply with a primer coat of gray paint (which would show through the transparent fuselage) but then forgot to paint this area grey before leveling it out with Green Stuff. Fortunately, I think the ceiling panels will be hard to see anyway.
Then, MPM got the rescue hoist all wrong, so I made a new one. And, if you flip their's over so the angles are correct, the winch is on the wrong member and, even if it were arranged correctly, it's just too crude to pass.
The rotor hub is not at all representative of the real thing. The blade roots attach to a triangular plate, and there is
an identical plate that MPM would have you glue on top if this assembly and just call it a day.
I didn't put the landing gear on yet because of all the handling the fuselage had to endure, but I think it's time to do that now. After that, fix up the rotor hub and scratch build a missing tail rotor blade. It's coming along, but slowly.

Nice work with the winch Barry and I think a man of your calibre will get away with the roof error

Right Shaun...I'll get away with it because nobody'll see it.

Its shaping up well. If you wanted to get round the roof problem you could try opening the portside door and having it slid back. Youe could then access the interior.

Thanks Martin, but the 'roof problem' is only a problem if you can see up into that back top corner. Since think that's likely never gonna hoppen. I'm leaving well enough alone.

Geez Martin! No need to get all testy just because I didn't wanna open the door! I'm tellin' : Hey guys, wot 'e done was 'e sent a great bloomin' evil spirit over here to knock the model outta my hands and break the rear bench loose. Forcin' me to open the door. No fair using witchery!
loose rear bench
Door off, bench fastened down, support flanges in place.
Door back on.
Meanwhile, adding gubbins to busy up the rotor head:
Bottom
Top
Moral: Don't get Martin Hale ticked off! He's got friends and he knows where you live.
