Airfix 1/72 Bf-109E (new tool) SKGB -- an SB promoted to GB

Here's where the general chat and organization of Group/Shared Builds takes place, with Guidelines, the GB/SB Calendar, and an Index to completed GBs.

Airfix 1/72 Bf-109E (new tool) SKGB -- an SB promoted to GB

Post by JohnRatzenberger »

This started as a Shared Build (see SB chat) that outgrew the defined SB limit of 5 players, so we have "promoted" it to a Standard Single Kit GB to which others may join, so continue to sign-up and chat here until it kicks off.

Because it had been coordinated to run as an SB 2-31 Jan 2013, adding it as a GB required an exception to the usual GB limits on number of simultaneous builds and aircraft builds, but as an SKGB is one of the signature UAMF GBs, it was felt worth it to do so.

If I read the SB chat properly, the following have signed up to date:
AndrewR - GBL
Jssel
mightymikeD
Ian
Marek
SteveC

More are now welcome !!!

I'm assuming that the pro-sharing ethos of the SB format has some responsibility for the popularity of this proposed ex-SB. Whilst I'm sure that this isn't an issue with the original 6, I'm hoping that anyone else considering joining in with this build will try to participate accordingly.
This could imply, for example, that everyone starts on the 2nd Jan. ;-)

I'll be doing mine out of the box, construction-wise, but I'll be using decals for the Royal Yugoslav Airforce, with the paint job being dark green uppers and light blue undersides.

cheers

We have a four week built time, so most of us will have to start on the 2nd to finish on time... :)

As we are now running as a GB, then normal GB rules now apply to sign up. As the initial intention was to try and build in parallel, however, I would encourage anyone who signs up to commit to starting sometime between the 2nd and 4th January, to keep the initial parts of the build relatively well synchronized.

cheers

Reckon I'll either do it straight OOB or maybe, depending on the spare decal situation, cobble together a Romanian. It's a smashing kit.
Maybe I could go totally hardcore OOB and only use the supplied acrylics...

Mine will be OOB and in the spirit of the shared build ethos.

Mine will also be OOB.
Looking at the sprues there doesn't appear to be any need to replace anything anyway.

Hello All,

Being a bear of very little brain, could I just check that this is Airfix kit code A01008 for the E-4 version, as the one I have doesn't seem to be very new tool at all to me

Thanks,

Steve

That number is the new one, if you can see the engine and the canopy is in separate parts it has to be as the old kit did not have those features, the old kit was also covered in enormous rivets which the new tool happily is not.

Thanks David,

So, it's off to Modelzone to, hopefully, buy the right one. Knowing my luck I will be able to pick up 3 Italeri Sunderlands for the price of two, but they won't have the 109.

Steve

P.S. So those big lumps are rivets. I was just about to quarantine it with a severe case of 'German' Measles.
