Italeri 1/48 Arado Ar 196 A **DONE**

What did your Secret Santa send you this Christmas? Have you been naughty or nice? Did you get a Trumpeter 1/48 Lump of Coal, or a nice old Airfix classic? Your builds should be chronicled here, starting Decmber 25th (ho, ho, ho!) and lasting through January 31st. Admins: Brickie and Paul Bradley

For the aircraft itself I just had to attach a few small parts to the underside.

It's now ready for a coat of primer.

Meantime I have put the trolley together. The underside has already been painted and the top got it's first coat today. I also painted some parts of the floats.

Following the priming I have started to paint the underside of the aircraft. I've also joined the floats together. That's me done for the night, I'll take some pictures tomorrow when there is more natural light.

This is where things stand this morning.

Image

I prefer to use a white primer. I've had issues with grey primer before particularly when using a red or yellow coat over it. So Halfords white primer does the job for me.

Not the best masking around the cockpit :???:

Image

The trolley requires a final coat and the tyres need to be touched up. The floats are undergoing painting at the moment.

That's all for now.

Very good progress there, Narayan - this should look great on the trolley.

The underside has had it's second coat. The prop has been painted and my least favourite job - masking the canopy.

Wow, you really are thundering along with this one mate - great job. I hear what you say about masking canopies, and yet perversely I feel that using pre-cut masks to be "cheating" somehow and won't let myself use them - a view that may well changes as I'm getting older and generally less tolerant and developing a keen "life's too short" attitude!

Cheers
Al.

One thing about the Ar196 canopy is that it is almost all straight lines, albeit a lot of them! My least favourite task is masking a canopy with a lot of curved edges.....

I must admit this wasn't the worst canopy that needed to be masked. As you said Paul it's all straight lines.

Thanks guys.

I've applied the first coat of yellow to the underside. There will be another coat or two of this required however in the meantime the topside is ready for a lick of paint.

The third coat of green has been applied and is drying as I type. The yellow underside will require another coat then a few parts need to be touched up before I can move on to the klear stage.
