How about a future Rhino build? Revised attempt New poll
While looking over the Xtradecal sheet 'The History of RAF 19 Squadron, Gauntlet, Mustang Mk.III, Spitfire Mk.XVI, Hornet, Meteor F.8, Hunter F.8, Phantom FGR 2' being used for postwar Spitfire GB, the Phantom markings became very appealing. Then throw in going through my stash and noticing the number of unbuilt Rhinos (F-4C/D, F-4N, F-4S, Phantom FG. Mk.1, F-4F, F-4G) lying there, the idea for a future group build came to mind. I am thinking the following parameters:
Subject: Any historical Phantom from 1958 to present.
No what ifs.
The model must be based on a aircraft that actually saw service, including
prototypes.
Any country that flew the Phantom is allowed and any scale kit may be
used. (Although 72 is the divine scale, I am open to others
Time: 1 month starting in summer
I must admit Robin Old's Scat XXVIII looks really good

On second thoughts, let's not go to Camelot. It is a silly place!

No excuse required to build an F-4 but later in summer best for me!

Re: How about a future Rhino build? Revised attempt
You may lose potential participants if you limit this to 1/72 scale - the scope of both the Phantom type/mark & overall timespan you suggest is very wide, so why limit the scale of the GB (said he with a shed load of 1/48 and 1/32 Tooms in his stash)?
2024 Acquired: 9 Built: 1
Re: How about a future Rhino build? Revised attempt
Hell yes. I don't need an excuse to build a Toom for the 'Cold war' table but this will get my rear in gear on one and I have several to go at.

I am not a stickler on scale but a desire to see some Rhinos built. I'll add it to the poll.

Voted August but any month is fine. Am thinking of doing a QF4B target drone.

I've put a vote in for June as I'm planning to be away in late July / August (would probably not stop me having a go though)

July would work for me.
Besting 60 years of mediocre building of average kits in the stand off scale

Great idea, and I'll be looking forward to watching the action. Unfortunately, I won't have time to join in; under normal conditions, one month roughly equals four days for me, and I can't do a proper build in that

Will watch with interest but unless I get hold of a decent RN or RAF Phantom kit I won't join in.

There is a regional IPMS show this weekend in Atlanta where they usually have a good vendor turnout. I'll be on the lookout for a Fujimi F-4M. You never know what gems one might find at a show. Are there any coming to your area in the near future?lancfan wrote:Will watch with interest but unless I get hold of a decent RN or RAF Phantom kit I won't join in.

I have a few F-4's so sounds good to me, I voted June but am open to anytime.

Chuck, There is plenty of time to find one but Kingkit aren't listing anything at the moment (don't fancy the old Frog offering) as a last resort there is always ebay but I would rather deal direct with a vendor rather than filling paypal coffers, getting to shows is a problem and I usually buy by mail order. I won't commit until I find the model, There are plenty of J79 versions available new at present but the Spey-engined UK versions are the only ones that appeal and nobody seems to make these now.Chuck Finley wrote:
