Cheers all. Got the Sherman to a place where I'm calling it done. Any more and I think it'll look too weathered. I think the wash may be a bit heavy, but it's done now

And the bit I was most pleased with. Getting the gun barrel drilled out, nice and centred

Good looking Sherman. I have to agree, it would look good on the LCM!

Coming together well Nigel 8-) Of course, a Sherman is too heavy for an LCMIII, but that's never bothered Airfix :ha:

I like the Sherman. You did a great job with those tracks, which I've always had trouble getting on without completely damaging everything in the way.

I thought the issue was that the LCM could only carry one Sherman, and basically no additional troops. Essentially, it was just impractical to use the LCM to carry a Sherman, not that it couldn't carry one.

I found a training video loading a Sherman onto a LCM.

Excellent work with the Sherman Nigel and it will look good in the landing craft.

Thanks guys. The LCM is being built for the 'In the Navy - Royal Navy Ships', group build, but I'll load it with the Sherman when it goes into the cabinet
Started this from the Operation Overlord gift set

It's fairly basic, was made to click together and needed a lot of seam scraping and sanding. I think I read somewhere that in previous releases the guns would fire shells by means of a spring. You still get 12 shells, but the barrels aren't hollow anymore  I think this is more of a toy than a replica of any D-Day gun position. It's all good fun though

Oh man, this takes me back Nigel as I had this emplacement as part of an Airfix D-Day set in the '70's and I recall that the guns did indeed "fire" :-D I don't see why it shouldn't paint up into a reasonable coastal defence fort, maybe not accurate but a fair bit of fun!

That gun emplacement is just begging to have some soldiers attacking it...
