Good day everyone, especially those in the UK who are about to have a Bank Holiday tomorrow!
I have spent a fair deal of time doing some priming with the faithful Halfords Rattle can on the P-51:

Image

As this P-51 was marked up with Invasion Stripes I masked up five blocks of 30mm, masked off and sprayed some Rattle can Flat white. I also began marking off the Red Squadron ID stripes on the Vertical stabiliser and nose.

Image

After I finished I realised how busy this is going to look, I think that I have sprayed the left end of the white border too close to the canopy, but the actual reference photo I have seems to match. The next step will be to mask off the white, spray the red, and do the underside. Job for tomorrow me thinks.
Back to the Lanc and the engine assembly! Pics tomorrow. Thanks for looking.
Best Regards

Mark

Thanks for all your kind comments gents.
Today I have carried on with the prep for the paint scheme. I have masked over the white Invasion borders, and completed the red ID markings on the nose, front cowling ring and Tail.
Image

I then airbrushed the underside Humbrol Neutral Grey, which went on quite nice;
Image

The last part of the day, prior to walking down to the pub, was to assemble the quickboost prop blades to the spinner, and then oops a blade
snapped at the fixing point. Instead of swearing, counting to ten, I drilled in a piece of old redundant drill bit:

Image

I then drilled into the broken blade and attached with CA, hopefully itll keep and behave.

Image

Well that will be all until I get back at the end of the week. Next step will be to get on the Xtracolour OD and put on the Black Invasion stripes. Thanks for looking and letting me share.
Best Regards

Mark

Bit more progress on "The Deacon" last night, I have sprayed on the Xtracolor Olive Drab.
Image

I let this dry overnight, and this afternoon took off the masking tape to check the results. Im very happy with the coverage and am thinking it looks more business like now.

My next job this afternoon will be to mark up for the black invasion stripes and try out placing a stencil for the stars and bars on the fuselage.I will be using the Xtracolor tyre black for the stripes as it wont be too stark. As this a/c was lost in action on D Day night I wont be doing any weathering on her as the stripes would I expect be too fresh.
Best Regards

Hello all,
Just a quick update on the progress of the paint job, I have had a set of the Markur paint pasks for stars and bars for quite a while now and affixed them to the fuselage sides to protect the white and black stripes, for when I put the decals on.
Image

They are a bit fiddly and I have noticed that I have left a bit of a gap there on the star, but I will press on.
Image

This afternoon I will spray the black stripes and hopefully post some pics later as a progress report.
Best Regards

Mark

Despite being a really slow builder, I have suprised myself today and got ahead and sprayed on the black invasion stripes onto the kit. I have used the Xtracolour Tyre Black, as I think I mentioned in an earlier post.
Image

I have noticed a bit of leakage but nothing too disastrous, as thought, though because I didnt completely mask up the stars and bars stencil, some of the black has got through.

Image

I am really enjoying this build, though as I Iam building the Revell Lanc in tandem for the 617 GB, I think I am rushing this one a bit and am trying to put as much effort in the Lanc as I can. Tonight I will spray on the Future gloss coat and let it dry overnight for the decals in the AM. I will be using the old Microscale decal sheet Serial 72-365, I have had it for an absolute age and hope they behave!

Thanks for looking and letting me share
Best Regards
