Anyone got any other ideas?
Hi,
I am currently involved with the P-51 GB, and can only handle one project at a time, but come June, I'm looking to build something else out of the stash! I'm not sure what, but it will be WWII, probably classic, possibly twin-engined, and not something I currently have in the collection, so slightly more obscure than my usual Spits, Typhoons, Lancs, P-51s and so on.
Possible contenders:
Italeri Mitchell (oob but for decals)
Italeri Ju188A/E (probably use some Hasegawa Ju188 engine cowlings)
Airfix Hs126 (lovely looking kit, although the subject doesn't do a lot for me, I have to admit)
FROG Barracuda (this could be a bit of a trial, I suspect, as some detail would need to be added)
FROG Do 335
Airfix Westland Whirlwind
The above is not necessarily an exhaustive list, but it contains the kit I'm currently thinking of. Anyone interested in joining me or indeed have any other ideas in the same general areas?
regards,
Martin

Martin, I am interested in the Frog Barracuda, have had this in the stash for too long and it really needs building.

Oooh, sounds like we've got a match, sir! I really need a Barra to go with my Firefly Mk 1. How does an early June start sound to you?

One possible (and I know AndrewR and I have these). The Monogram A-1E Skyraider. 1/72 scale.
Besting 60 years of mediocre building of average kits in the stand off scale

I could do a Whirlwind; I have a project that requires 6 of them, and not all are underway yet (and those that are, are stalled, but we won't go into that here). Anyway this could help me get back on track.
But I'm in no rush either ....

Unfortunately, that's not one I've got in the stash, so it's not one I'd be able to join you with. I do have an Airfix Skyraider, on which I've just watched Nax do an excellent job. One day . . .

Martin

I would dearly like to do a Whirlwind, but if I do the Barra with David, that's June at least out. I'll mention the Whirlwind later on and see if you're still keen.

Re: Anyone got any other ideas?
Here's my build list up until the end of October
May - Dambusters, 617 Sqn GB - Mossie
June Military Support Vehicles -K2 Ambulance
July - Gloster Meteor 70th Anniv, Airfix F3/Frog F4
August 15 - Sept 30th The Busy Lizzie. Frog Lysander

Must do: Revell Fw-189 (birthday present from Graham)
Sopwith 1 1/2 Strutter (a generous donation from Ralph)
Shared build: Frog Sea Venom (with Splash)
Others on the possibles list:
(all 1/72 scale)
Airfix Whirlwind (in the proposed twin engined fighter GB?, or an SB)
Airfix Firefly
Airfix P-51D and Spitfire F22
Airfix Buffalo
Airfix WIldcat (x2)
Airfix Re8 (x2) - Yes, I am barking mad
Frog Typhoon
Frog P-38 (proposed twin engine fighter GB?)
Frog Westland Wyvern
Matchbox Stranraer
Airfix Spitfire IXc converted to Mk VIII
Airfix Supermarine S6B

Looks like the Airfix Whirlwind could be a three way SB if we can agree on a date - personally late November would be best.
Cheers
Andrew

Re: Anyone got any other ideas?
Martin, Andrew ...
I'm fine if we see what shakes out with other SB's & GB's and address the Whirlwind later ....
The RE8 sounds interesting but I've got it in 72 (Airfix), 48 (Aeroclub), and 32 (WNW) and am still holding out to do the latter ...

The WNW one will go together a lot better than Ye Olde Aryfyks kit!jRatz wrote:Martin, Andrew ...
