Re: Lancfan's LCM3 Landing Craft
Fantastic work on the vents! Hard enough to make one, let alone four all the same!!!

Re: Lancfan's LCM3 Landing Craft
David,
Here's a "sketch" of the ramp cable system.
Very simple really. There is a single cable from the winch with a single block on the end. There is a single cable running ramp-to-ramp which goes through the block and around the sheaves shown. The winch retracts/extends the winch cable and that adjusts the single ramp cable equally.
The ramp-ramp cable crosses over going through the deckhouse right behind the open cargo area.

Re: Lancfan's LCM3 Landing Craft
The main structure is now complete, the helm station has been fitted into the wheelhouse and final assembly, painting and weathering/detailing will soon begin. The end is in sight and I should just about finish in time.

The boat is basically complete and the basic colour scheme is now down, the next steps are to gloss varnish, decal, add stowage & fittings and weather the model by midnight.

Re: Lancfan's LCM3 Landing Craft
These were the fenders for the hull, made from Miliput and textured by simply rolling over them when partly cured with a file in the reverse of how you would a rolling pin and pastry. this set did not look right and there isn't time to make another smaller set before the end of the GB therefore I will finish the boat without them to end my build in the GB.

Re: Lancfan's LCM3 Landing Craft
The boat is now painted, rigged and weathered, the fenders did not turn out as I liked and will be re-done outside of the GB along with the addition of a vehiclular load and a crewman for the deck. but I am still pleased with the result, it is fairly generic and I have made a few mistakes along the way. I am still gathering information on these boats so will visit this subject again to better effect and accuracy. I would like to thank jRatz for the essential info he sent.

A most educational build, David...I have one of these in my 'rescue' stash and you've given me a lot of good pointers on what to do with it...

Nice! It would have taken me a couple of weeks to do what you managed in just a few days, and it probably wouldn't look as good.

Thanks Simon, splash, Neil, Bruce. It was a fun build with my lack of knowledge of these things being a big obstacle but with the D-Day anniversary next year I do want to build more of this sort of thing.

Very well done !! Your ramp cables look much better than my drawing and are spot on !
I saw something that suggested markings would be a large number (like the 610) with a smaller US or Uk to denote ownership .... but have seen so many pix of other styles that I'd hate to generalize ....
