Which is the best Airfix boxart?
Re: Which is the best Airfix boxart?
I have always thought the old B17 'A Bit 'O' Lace' box art was the best. not the most accurate action wise but it really gave you the feeling of the action.

I was always fond of PBY box art.

Have to agree with Greg, that B-17 is the one I best remember.

There has been so many of the great work of the maestro Roy Cross, but one that holds special memories for me is his B-29 Superfortress. A kid in the 60's getting it for a Christmas present and the box was soooooooooooo big!
Best Regards

Gosh, that's a difficult one. Let me think on this.

For me it's the Roy Cross Lancaster, G George landing with an engine fire. I've always loved this illustration and recently bought the fine art limited edition print of it.
Best wishes
Jim

Sounds an odd choice but I always liked the Stirling being bombed up

Doing the opposite of my thread Hmm?
Anyway, the best airfix boxart, IMO, is the new mosquito boxing:

Got to agree with you on that one Blohmwolf. So much so in fact that I'm about to start making that entire scene as a box art diorama. Making the leading Mosquito wheels up will waste an awful lot of parts that won't be used, but I have two of them and picked the second one up cheaply so it wont feel like such a waste. I have already installed Airfix motors inside the engines. I have foam boards and brick paper to construct the prison and a 1/48 Tamiya Mossie for the one breaking to the left in the painting. I just hope I can do Adam's painting justice.BlohmWolf wrote:

I like the Stirling too. Just the thought of the big bomber basking in the sun with the ground crew getting it ready for another night mission over enemy territory, kind of like a queen bee being tended to by the workers.

My favourites ?
The Wellington being harassed by 109's as it heads home low across the sea. Not sure a B.III would be on a daylight raid, the artwork is probably more appropriate for an early B.I in 1939, but it really does it for me.
The 1/72 Mosquito 'tse-tse' shooting up the merchant ships looks great as well.
