This is quite a small model to have this amount of decals on....im not even half way through...
so progress so far, undercarriage is on painted and I have started decalling from the back. I have also attached 2 out of three sections of the canopy ( i havent attached the middle bit yet, because i dont know whether to model it up yet) and I have applied alot of the after market decals,
so here are some pictures of the build so far. Almost finished

Hello again my fellow modellers and group builders, can you hear that? that is the sound of flags being raised and The trumpets sounding, I have finally finished a group build!
The last steps were applying the rest of the decals, touching up some of the paint and getting a wash in the panel lines.( and adding the Pitot tubes on the rear section of the tail plane) I am very happy with the result( probably because its finished).

This is Pre panel line wash

Overall I loved this build. I didnt stick to the instructions though, which is probably a good thing when compared to some builds. My advice would be to add the intake grills after you have the wings fully assembled on the fuselage to avoid any steps, and when it comes to putting the wings on, if you follow the instructions its not too far away from getting a god resut providing when you fit the lower sections you hold them in place to get rid of the gaps. If you clamp without holding it the gaps will not disappear. I held mine until they had dried without a gap and then clamped the wings until they set.

This one is complete

More importantly I can see how far I have come in modelling since I last got this far lol. One last quick note about references. Since I built this kit I have found a photo of this aircraft on the 25th November 1970, by which time it had lost its thicker black band around the cockpit..as there are a shortage of pictures of this unit at this time I have thinned it a little, but I am going to stick with it...
Didnt think i would be the first to finish to be fair...cant remember last time I finished first in a SKGB! I may build another...we will see how it goes...

Thanks for following....

Pugz

Oooh, that is indeed a dilemma Pugz and IMHO is one of the dilemmas of modern aircraft modelling (by that I mean modelling in the here and now, not just modelling modern aircraft). Personally I don't use panel washes, or rather I should say, I haven't tried the technique yet, it doesn't mean that I never will. The jury is out as far as I'm concerned but what I would say is keep it subtle. From the tone of your post I reckon you might be having second thoughts. Try toning it down a bit rather than totally eradicating what you have done.

thanks shaun, i went back to photo references and despite most of the survivors being museum pieces and hence not very weathered, the ones that are available showing them in service make them look very clean all the time, so that aided my decision...

Nice work, if I knew how badly the canopy fitted I would have built mine with it open as well!

Very nice. I don't do panel washes myself although I do run a normal pencil along the lines just to break up the scheme if it is one colour. Only do it feintly so it is just visible.
Hoping to return to modelling sometime this year!!

I like the white canopy it shows of the fine detail better than silver or in the case of my build dark green.

Your chose of markings was a good one far better than the kit options, I'm also in two minds about panel washes I add them to some builds to break up plane colours, but the new Airfix kits look good without them because the panel lines stand out on their own.
