Re: Paul's Swiss Miss
Beer, pizza and chocolate. Doesn't get much healthier than that!
Beer/wine/Cognac and chocolate is almost essential company in front of a 'long' TV night. I have now chocolate and several Hansa beers, lot of good programs on tonight. Later will have a Cognac or Havana rum, or heck even both.
Sorry for continuing the off topic, boss.

Confused as always, and somewhere in hiding on the Scandinavian peninsula...

Re: Paul's Swiss Miss
Done! There's more photos in the gallery - and I'll take better ones when I have some proper daylight...
Wasn't really a heck of a lot to finish up, just those niggly little jobs - paint touch-up, the last few decals, dark brown sludge wash, u/c doors (one fell off during the photo shoot... ). I even managed to keep the pitot intact, though I did break an u/c leg (fortunately, fairly easy to repair...)
Overall, a nice little kit, though the assembly sequence really needs to be tweaked, especially regarding the intakes. A case of over-engineering, I think. Still, looks fine in the end. I'll want to do at least two more - RAN and RAF.

Re: Paul's Swiss Miss **FINISHED**
Cheers, Alan. I use watercolour paint from a tube, thinned with water and a tiny amount of dishwashing liquid to alleviate surface tension. This is applied to panels with a fine brush. I allow that to dry and rub off the excess with a dampened cotton bud (I'll use 4 or 5 on a model this size), which allows finer control than a rag. I use a mix of Dark Ochre and black - the effect is subtler than straight black, and also gives a hint of oil staining and other grime, rather than the sooty effect of black.

Re: Paul's Swiss Miss **FINISHED**
Cheers I must try that, I tend to use Paynes Black Oil Paint thinned with spirit as it tends to come out as a blue grey colour, as you say black is to dark.
Do the water colours dry a lot lighter than when wet?

Re: Paul's Swiss Miss **FINISHED**
Cheers, Jim. It's a very understated scheme, I think, and that appeals to me right now. Xtradecals did include decals for special markings on the nose which were tere for the retirement ceremony for the Vampire back in the late eighties, but it was just too large and garish, and I wanted to display an operational machine.
