You guys are kicking butt and taking names with these box art builds. Nothing short of AMAZING...

Thanks, chaps. Here's the first full mock-up, with the backdrop:

The "titles" aren't the final ones yet, and I need to find out what the end of a Type IV dogfight double box looks like so I can repeat the distortion trick on the sides of the base. I'm going to give the MiGs wire undercarts, so they can sit a little more off the base, and if I can find any 1/185 >1/200 scale little guys, I'll pop them on...

And here's the closest I can get to the box art crop with my camera, indoors in poor light...

I need some rocket exhaust from the pods, as well... where's that cotton wool?

M.

Superb stuff. Can we have a couple of side shots so we (erm... I ) can get a better idea of how you've achieved the distortion?

That's looking superb Matt - definitely captures the theme of the Classic Box Art. All of the action and excitement is there. Can't wait to see the finished product.

Cheers
Al.

Thanks, chaps! Nearly there now...

I've got some 1/200 scale architectural figures on the way - I'm hoping that among the selection of 30, there will be five or six who can be transformed into running mechanics.

It's REALLY hard to photograph this, especially since the weather is so awful that I can't do it outside, with good even lighting all around. I have a feeling that I need to be quite a long way away and zoomed in to get the right perspective, but I'll need to experiment. Lets hope things dry up a little some time next week!

bestest,
M.

Just a thought re your rockets...wondering if perhaps you could cluster them around a wire core for 1/2/ to 3/4 of the length of the fishing line for some rigidity? The real things actual stay quite tight until they are well past the aircraft...
Alternatively, you might attach a note containing the disciplinary record of the responsible armourer as these rockets would fly as they are currently if not maintained properly...for a more modern scenario you could just say that they are GPS-guided and winging their independent ways off to deal to some unsuspecting bad guys...

And these two are as close as I can get to the actual box shot:
