Blohm's 1/24 Airfix Spitfire

Post by BlohmWolf »

I got last christmas a 1/24 Spitfire mk.1. I started on it, but only got as far as painting the cockpit, the engine and the 303 machine guns.

Seeing as this GB has come up, I gathered up all of the bits and now am going to finish it, in this 1 month space, as best as I can.

So....let the madness begin.

The box art although, is very nice. Shame the kit is so bad.

I need to seriously clean up that fuselage!

Broken Prop.

You seriously call THIS a wheel?

Nice canopy though, should go really well.

One of the only spots that I could consider worthy of a close up. This is one of the only spots worth seeing.

A basic, but acceptable cockpit.

Now, where did I hide those 3 tons of filler?

IIRC, this is one of the very first of the "Superkits" range Blohm and, as such, is pretty long in the tooth now. I had an example back in the '90's that I gave away to a friend, unbuilt, as I had nowhere to put the finished kit following a house move. The kit parts looked pretty rough back then too. Somehow, I can't see Airfix doing a new tool of this one. That said though, if you have the time and patience this can be made into a show stopper as the basic building blocks are there - I've seen some lovely examples at model shows in the past.
Doing - Tamiya 1/35th Universal Carrier.

Work is the curse of the modelling classes!

That's a big old beast of a kit for a prevaricaters GB but it's great to see it being built. I'm sure you'll get a terrific buzz when this one's done.

We may need to have another Superkit GB. The last one was the only reason my -190 got built. I still have another 3 superkits languishing in their boxes.

Good Heavens! No. I'm scrounging around for a lost wheel and looking for replacements.

Try Dunlop, they may have something the right size. That's a big kit!

Drop a mail to Airfix. They'll send you a replacement. Tell them it was badly formed or something.

Ok, but seeing as they are in the UK, and I am in Tasmania, Australia....

I'll have to wait a long time for them.....

But hey, It's better late then never. I'll go write off an email.

Tonight, I attempted to fit the engine panels on. Nup. No fit at all. I had to cut and sand, cut and sand, cut and sand. And now it is supergluing overnight. Will upload some pictures tommorow morning, so sick of this kit already!
