OT's Heinkel of shame

Post by Old_Tonto »

I am liking this group build idea so much that I have pulled another one from the pile to hack at.

Image

This is the lovely Hasegawa kit re-boxed by Revell (at half the price?).

I remember that the fit was great but I stalled at masking the canopy. I should have done my research before buying.
I was also put off by the idea of brush painting such a big model.

I want to back date it to a BoB He-111 H2 model. Externally that should just mean differant exhausts, 4x windows filled in & slightly differant upper gun position window. All parts are available on the sprues so that is lucky.

Since this build stalled I have aquired an airbrush & a Montex mask for the canopy.
So hopefully progress should be quick. 8-)

It's a great kit Dirk, assuming you don't mind canopy framing.

This could be one of those kits that begs you to go out and buy a mask set

Nice one OT, I haven't built a 111 since I tried the Matchbox one in the '70's and I didn't even attempt the canopy frames back then!

Use the old painted sellotape (or Magic tape) trick. I use it for all difficult and extensive glazing and it seems to work well. A lot easier than masking.

Love the look of that Heinkel. Had the Airfix one as a boy, have the Italeri one now.
Need to improve my skillset before starting this one.

Looks like a great kit OT, and perfect for this GB now you have an airbrush. 8-)

The Montex mask sets are very good. I've got their masks on my FW-189 stalled build (hmm, is there a pattern here?).

I think people may need to update their A:B figures with a C - Consigned to the naughty shelf. I know I currently have about 9 kits in various stages of completion just gathering dust....

I have lots of models sitting half finished in the stash; once in a while I get inspired and finish them off. About a third of my completions this year fall into that category

After the current two for this GB I have a Mig-23 & F-5B both ready for paint. A Ju-88 that has it's first coat RLM 70, an Airfix Sabre, Revell Mil-8 (big beast!), Javelin, F-84G, Airfix Hurricane x2, Spitfire XVI x2 ...... the list goes on. We should make this an annual event. :)

Actually thinking about it I might try to arrange a 'Get it done' Blitzbau House over the Xmas break. 8-)

Back to the kit, I got three light coats of Xtracrylix RLM70 on last night & will start masking this evening. Sorry no pics as my phone was out of charge. It's just like before but green. ;-)
This is a bit of an experiment as I have read reports of Xtracrylix lifting off with Tamiya tape. If it all goes pear shaped this may get canned again! :???:

Given the overwhelming response to this GB, I'd say we should do this annually. :)
