Frog Buccaneer S.2B, Sverdlov hunting 801 Sqn HMS VICTORIOUS

Post by gengriz »

First full week of the year, first fully finished model :)

Image

This is the old FROG offering with Modeldecal markings and a very small amount of photoetch (for the air brake and ejector seat handles). Other minor changes include a few sprue inspired cockpit details (although I forgot to add my carefully crafted Observers windscreen Grrrr), plus paper roll intake trunks and straw jet pipes (the latter as suggested by another member on this site).

Image

The air brakes use Airwaves photo etch, plus a little plastic card and sprue (Frog's left and right side aren't identical). The weapons (Bullpups and 1000 lb bombs) come from the spares box.

Image

And with the rest of the fleet.

Image

At this stage I think I prefer the FROG to the other two, with its slightly more convincing nose profile, although it is very obvious that the vertical tail surfaces are rather compressed:

Sweet and superbly finished. What paints/varnish?

Hand brushed using Humbrol enamels (123 and 130 mostly) light oily wash on panel lines, topped overall with Micro Satin acrylic varnish.

Works a treat for me every time, although the white needed 3 coats on this one before I was happy with it.

It's a Superb Model!!!!!

Bravo!
Sometimes the talent consists exactly in that: try five dozen times when others stop at three dozen...! (F.Labelle)
I think that modeling is a subtle mix of zen philosophy and absolute crazyness - but in my case I would not dare to specify the respective percentage of each......

Fantastic finish on the FROG Buccaneer Fred  , think I've got that same Modeldecal sheet around somewhere, does it have a Seahawk and and Alpha Jet on it as well?? Will we be able to see it in the flesh at the Yeovilton show next month?

What an excellent Froganeer! Just goes to show that the old classics can be brought up to a good standard with a little effort.

Terrific. I also agree with you that the Frog Buccaneer has the best radome shape of the 1/72 injected Buccaneers.
