You mean the rest of the page is blank?
;-)

I’ve no idea how accurate it is, but when I last built one, aged 13, I thought the Airfix Sabre Dog was, well... the b*ll**ks, really.

I have more recently built the newer RevellG/Monogram 1/48 one, which is quite the best thing that Monogram has new-tooled since the F-15E (and no surprise, since Bill Koster did them both...) so I do know what an F-86D should look like, and it didn’t put my memory of the Airfix one to shame...

So, is your point, Bruce, that:
FSM is still bothering to do articles about CBKs (good)
FSM has started to do articles about CBKs (good)
or,
that the Airfix F-86D needs improving (not so good, but not a surprise)

bestest,
M.

Simply put, Mr Knable is a master model builder. I have seen many of his works around various contests and conventions and they all stand out for all the right reasons.

He concentrates on very old kits and brings them up to todays standards. And he does not use much aftermarket stuff either.

What he has done with the Airfix F-86D is sensational.

Agreed, but the article is not very informative. He says what he did, but not really how he did it. I think this was an issue with editing for FSM, as Mr. Knable's articles in the defunct Aerospace Modeler were excellent.

Jim (Jagewa) did a nice job of improving the Airfix Sabre Dog in the Sabre GB too:

FSM go over the top in my opinion, and I wonder how much they really encourage new modelers and how many people they put off with over the top builds.

I like Jim's Sabre build.

While I like looking at the FSM pictures, I find the new Airfix magazine is streets ahead for actually having useful content across all modelling types e.g. aircraft, armour, ships, figures, etc...if I can get it approved domestically, I think I will subscribe to it as I hardly ever see it on the shelf...

FSM is very much a gallery publication. They focus on showing some cracker-jack modeling, but thats about all. The quality of their how-to articles, which used to be fantastic (the basic techniques - advanced results series used to be great) has really gone down the toilet over the last 10 years or so.

Agreed with what Paul says about the Airfix Magazine. It is a great "How To" publication.
