Re: Jimmy Thach's Buffalo
The fuselage is now together and primed.
The seams are not bad, but still need some work in places.
The engine has been painted, Vallejo Model Colour Military Blue for the hub, drybrushed silver over the cylinders and then given an umber wash.

Re: Jimmy Thach's Buffalo
I added a yellow strut in rhe wheel wells, to make it look a bit less empty
The Buffalo gets the Montex canopy masks meant for the Hasegawa kit. Only a few bits of trimming needed for the Airfix canopy.
I got the wings on and installed an instrument panel. The canopy isn't glued on yet, as I need to paint the cockpit coaming and rear deck, and install the life raft. Filler was needed at both upper wing to fuselage joints and under the fuselage. Less than I expected
Then some sand primer on the wings - the best base colour for yellow.
I should be able to paint the yellow wings now, as well as the undercarriage bays and legs.
Cheers
Andrew

Re: Jimmy Thach's Buffalo
The yellow, sprayed neat.
On the Peashooter I added a drop of red (1 part to 20), which I think is marginally better. But this will be okay.
All 3000 rivets are still visible. Wear your rivets with pride.
Cheers

A second coat of yellow with a touch of red in it. I like this better.
I need to improve the top seam on the fuselage. It's still too obvious.
Cheers

Re: Jimmy Thach's Buffalo
A couple of coats of green on the cowling.
I also applied more putty to the top seam on the fuselage and sanded it smooth (more or less).
I decided that the black antireflection panel and footwalks needed to be painted. The decal sheet has panels, but I never think that the decals look as good as real paint.
An easy masking job, and it turned out nicely.
I need to put another white coat on the tail.
Cheers

Re: Jimmy Thach's Buffalo
First, however, some green on the parcel shelf
The life raft container has nasty mould lines and an ejector pin mark on it, and is being fettled into shape.
Cheers

Re: Jimmy Thach's Buffalo
The life raft canister is now in the rear cockpit and the canopy glued on. I also fitted the telescopic gunsight.
Ready for masking and spraying the aluminium. I also need to clean up the undercarriage doors and legs. I wasn't happy with the cowling finish, so it's had another layer of plastic putty on it.

No nodding dog on the parcel shelf?
Looks very nice, Andrew.

Nice little kit. Riven strewn, inaccurate and lacking in refinement, but it goes together rather nicely.PaulBradley wrote:No nodding dog on the parcel shelf?

Unfortunately I don't think I'm going to get it finished by the end of the month. The pile of "must be done" tasks in real life is getting alarmingly large.

Re: Jimmy Thach's Buffalo
A whole thirty minutes snatched today, while waiting for supper to cook.
A bit of filler at the back of the canopy, and a second coat of white on the tail.
I also peeled off the paint from the cowling to try polishing it up a bit. It's the only thing that's given any trouble with the kit.
Cheers
