Tmavomodry Svet **FINISHED**

Post by DazDaMan »

My other contribution to this GB will be an Otaki 1/48th Spitfire VIII.

Image

I'll be using similar decals to those used on the Spitfire II build, but this time the film is the cracking Czech drama Dark Blue World*, in which two Spitfires were used in the flying sequences, including this Mk.VIII:

The two Spits were painted to match out-takes from the Battle of Britain movie, although the Mk.VIII didn't have its cannon removed (I had to double-double-check this!).

This should just be an OOB build (apart from the decals).

I had hoped to snag an Airfix Spitfire VB so that I could do them both, but nothing forthcoming at the moment!

*The thread title, Tmavomodry Svet, is the Czech-language title for the film, in case you were wondering!

Some progress on the Dark Blue World Spitfire....

I can see the actual building of this taking no more than a couple of days. The Mk.II will be a bit longer....!

That looks to be a big simple kit.

And is that a standing pilot figure too?

It is.

I love this wee kit - goes together nice, it looks nice, and because it comes with a fixed tailwheel option, you can do either an VIII or a IX!

OK, so it's got a basic cockpit, and it doesn't have the gull-wing effect that the real Spitfire has, but if you're looking for a simple little 1/48th Spitfire that builds into a pleasing model, you can't go wrong with this! Also, you could really go to town on it to produce something extra.

And this will be my third! :-D

Yep, goes together nicely out of the box and I've seen some great finishes on this very forum.

Oh yes, a very entertaining and sweet cat, when she's not lending a paw at Spitfire building! :ha:

Coincidence: My modelling helper is also a cat, also called Missy!

But unlike your fluffball, she's a Silver tabby that likes to put her paws on you and demand wuvs.

My Missy doesn't normally involve herself with anything like modelling. She's more content to lie on her back to have her belly rubbed while you're watching a DVD.

However, last night she took particular interest in the Spit - the instrument panel got fired off the coffee table with gay abandon!!

"gay abandon!!"

I don't think its taken that way anymore. Thank goodness you found a person of the current generation who didn't take it like that.
