1/32 Revell Mk 22/24 Spitifire GB Build ***Finshed***
I have picked on the Revell 1/32 MK22/24 for the GB, and If I have time an Airfix 1/48 FR 46/47 Seafire.
the sprues look nicely moulded but being an old matchbox mould it has some pretty large connections to the parts, which means some blo22y large creators to fill in if im not careful!
Decals give the choice for three Sqdn markings, No.73 Sqdn RAF Ta Kali , Malta 1948. No.613 (City of Manchester) Sqdn, Royal Auxiliary Air Force, Ringway, 1949, and as a MK24 of No.80 Sqdn, RAF Kai Tak , Hong Kong, 1951.
I have made a start on the pilot, engine, and cockpit. (pics to follow) and I am going to have a go at getting some extra detail on to the engine, I might not be going to do much to the cockpit as on a dry fit it didn't look as if much would be seen, I will wait and see. might start the Sea Fire as I can work on one while the other dry's.

I'll be looking forward to seeing what you make of this one, Ron.
I have one in the stash, but have built two in the past. A bit fiddly, but nothing too major.
I'm tempted by the idea to build the same Spit in three different scales - the 80 Squadron machine in 32nd, 48th and 72nd scales!

Re: 1/32 Revell Mk 22/24 Spitifire GB Build
Well here goes!
The engine is coming together, just adding a few details. put on throttle control rods.
and some wiring,
and a bit of repainting.
The fuselage together and the pilot trying out the office for fit,
just to the side a start on the under carriage with brake pipes from fine gage wire.
I have not done a lot to the inside of the cockpit, so there aren't a lot of pictures of that. tomorrow I will put the wings together.

Re: 1/32 Revell Mk 22/24 Spitifire GB Build
As I said you cant see much but the instrument panel is a mix of decal and a black paint background,
the rest of the cockpit and the fuel cells are cockpit green.
The wings are together, complete with guns and ammo belts, they took a bit of jiggering about to get the top and bottom lined up, and will need cleaning up. I have given them a coat of aluminium and will get a coat of Kleer.
next few days or so I will get going on the Seafire and get the wings on this one.

Hi Splash! I will probably use the green/grey, not sure yet. But what ever scheme I use I will use the markings from No 613 (City of Manchester )Royal Air Force auxiliary Sqdn.

Re: 1/32 Revell Mk 22/24 Spitifire GB Build
When I stared the kit, I was initially impressed by the finish of the moulding apart from the sprue attachments. these were on par with the thick Airfix ones BUT looks can be deceiving. I have never seen so many parts that don't fit and need careful filing down Or parts that are to small. an example of this are the engine cowlings, when fitted there was at least a half a centimetre gap between the side cowls and top cowls. The wing root fillets had to be sanded filed push and pulled to get them to fit, and after all this a contract with a plastic body filler company would come in handy.
I had wanted to be able to show it with or without the cowlings on and with the gun panels off as if being serviced, or with the pilot in getting ready to go. But I have now opted to try fitting them with a blob of blue tack.
Any way whinging over here are a few more pics.
the engine with the exhaust pipes drilled out.
A bad day at the body shop!
Well back to the grind stone, a lot of sanding down and shaping to do then a couple of coats of aluminium and then decide on the colour scheme.
Keep up the good work.

Re: 1/32 Revell Mk 22/24 Spitifire GB Build
The build stalled due to a late appointment for a driving assessment to have adaptions to my car, took a couple of days so I will have to work like nut's to finish it his afternoon and this evening. Did a bit last night when we got home so only paint and decals to do.

Re: 1/32 Revell Mk 22/24 Spitifire GB Build ""FINSHED""
Well it's two days late but here it is, warts and all. This model has so much filler in it I need shares in a body filler factory!.
sorry it's late guys but believe me this really must be the rat in Revels pack !
