This is my first completed build in a year and I'm not sure how rusty my skills are getting! Varying shifts and lifes various distractions really put modelling on a back burner. I'd lost my modelling mojo so much I nearly sold my entire stash..I did have a good cull mostly as I've been so skint!
However, after such a long wait for a decent Lightning to come out, I have to say I'm very happy Airfix have done a great job of my favorite aircraft of all time. Not quite back to where I was with modelling but its going in the right direction...
There is an accuracy issue if you are fitting four guns - you cannot fit missiles or missile pylons as the lower gun pack completely replaces the missile pack. References on this are scarce so easily missed. I filled the holes for missile pylons and I really like the ultra-clean look.
Another criticism is the decals. Great colours yes, but unless I was doing something very wrong I really had to use large amounts of Microsol to get them to settle...and the under wing serials are too big! Really small issues and despite my low modelling enthusiasm I thoroughly enjoyed this kit. Can't wait for the F.6!

Re: Airfix 1/72 Lightning F.2a
At first thought I thought the first one was a reference picture. Then I had to look again to see it's only a model!
Great work.

Re: Airfix 1/72 Lightning F.2a
Cheers all! The top picture I took to show the excellent work by Airfix on the complex 'kink' in the wings - first company to nail it. I used my favourite for various Nmf tones, good old Humbrol Metalcotes, with polished steel for the nose ring.
I mentioned the F.6 release and noticed on the Airfix site it gives a much higher part count which can't only be for the hideous over-wing tanks. I wonder if we getting a missile trolley or some other ground equipment?

Great result; very inspiring.

Very nice "frightning" "Lightning Force" by Fred Martin shows your aircraft with the twin cannons mounted!

Absolutely super job there! I too favour the Humbrol Metalcotes. This is a lovely job and captures the aircraft perfectly.

Nice work-you've obviously still "got it" when it comes to the old mojo.
