Esci 1/72 AC-47D, attached to 432 TFW, Udorn RTAB, Thailand
While I am busy gnashing my teeth and head-butting brick walls of ill-considered kitbashing projects, here is one of my older models photographed a bit better that when it was rolled out many years ago.
I spent many years quite close to C-47s, so I thought the nose profile required slight reshaping, but otherwise no alterations necessary.
Decals are from a Superscale Gunship decals sheet.
I should have kept the door shut because there is no interior structure apart from the guns!
All airbrushing with Xtracolour enamels, apart from a Humbrol black undersides with a dash of white added.
Is that a lethal-looking killing machine or what!?
I feel much better!
Thanks for looking,
David

Very nice.
I built this as a NASA DC-3 last year. It's a nice kit and less complex than the new Airfix version.

Lovely AC-47! Like the B-26, Its strange seeing a Second World War era plane in the same camo as F-4s and F-111s!
I always preferred the ESCI DC-3 to the Italeri version for some reason.

Very nice indeed David. The camo finish especially.

Terrific build.
Besting 60 years of mediocre building of average kits in the stand off scale

Really super looking model. I think you nailed the camo.

Excellent paint job, David.

Very nice. I have an EC-47 to build. I got the paints and new decals, but it's still hiding in the stash. I used the old ESCI kit.
So many models, so little time.

Yet again David you have set the bar very high for us mere mortals! Tremendous looking model and superb painting.
Obviously gnashing teeth and head-butting brick walls really works for you! Maybe I should try it....
Fabulous model mate.

That looks really excellent, David. I'm quite a fan of the SEAC scheme and you've done a great job of it!

Thanks, chaps!
I was excited to post that yesterday and a typo crept in. I was close to C-47s, not AC-47s!
Cheers,
David

Very kind, thank you, but if I knew then what I know now... just don't bother with that ZTS Plastyk Hunter!Zee28 wrote:Obviously gnashing teeth and head-butting brick walls really works for you! Maybe I should try it....
Actually, David, the Hunter is now a challenge that I feel is being adequately met, so I am looking up a bit! Not famous last words, I hope!dwomby wrote:PS - I hope revisiting this beautiful build has revived the mojo that the Hunter is dulling.

Lovely work David; the three tone camouflage really works nicely on the classic shape of the C47.
Best wishes

Great Spooky!!!
I built a complete interior for my Airfix Spooky and accidentally melted the fuselage trying to dry the glue on the fuse halves one very cold June in 1982.
