Re: Titan's 2012 Table Top.
Thanks Jim and yes the tracks were included in the kit, I had never seen one before and only knew about as I was building the AB41 a while back.
I agree it does look different so that was the deciding factor with me getting the kit, well that and a dicounted price of a tenner...
Regards
Mark

The AB40 looks very good,
I like the mini diorama setting model, really brings it to life!

If there are no stupid questions, then what kind of questions do stupid people ask? Do they get smart just in time to ask questions?

Re: Titan's 2012 Table Top.
Thanks Justin.
I've made a start yesterday on the Hurricane and this is where I am at the moment with it.
Starting with the engine parts....
I cleaned up the parts and glued the bulk of the engine together before giving it a spray of black.
When the black was dried I drybrushed the block with some Tamiya silver, added some more sticky out parts( pipework in the trade ) and then painted those also.
There are a few more bits to add and then the whole engine will get a spray over with some Tamiya smoke.
Sometime today I am getting the interior green sprayed onto the engine bracing and firewall.
I have had a look at the pilot and decided that I will actually put him in the driver's seat, yes I know that's rare for me but I think he is so well sculpted for a kit this age that he warrants insertion.......
Does anyone else thinks he looks like the actor Kenneth Moore?
Anyway `Widge` will be primed and worked on throughout the build.
Regards
Mark

Nice work on the Hurri - never did this one. I aim to get the big Stuka and build that. This looks a nice kit though, looking forward to seeing how Kenneth pans out! The engine looks good. The trouble with the super kits is the undercarriage bays but I´m sure you can fix it.

Re: Titan's 2012 Table Top.
Thanks Stamford and I have not got as far as the bays yet but from what I gather they are a lot better implemented on this kit than Airfix's Spit or 109.
I too hope to acquire the Stuka and maybe the Fw190 sometime in the future.
Not really done a lot other than wash the engine with burnt umber oil paint and turps which knocked back the brightness of the silver dry brushing.
The engine support tubing was added and the last of the kit's pipes were added also.
I will be adding some pipes and tubing of my own using some BT cable wire which seems to be about the right diameter a bit later on in the build.
Started the fuel tank and gave it a coat of klear and once cured I will apply a wash of black/brown to bring out the rivet detail on the firewall more than anything else.
The seat was also started and will get a bit of dry brushing and maybe a few scratches here and there but not too many as the pilot will be covering most of them up so would be a waste of time really.
That's all for today but will make a start on th cockpit frame etc tomorrow.
Regards
Mark

Re: Titan's 2012 Table Top.
And here is the said frame near completion....
Just a couple of more things to add, clean up the wash, a little touch up here and there and that will be this part of the build finished.

Re: Titan's 2012 Table Top.
Thanks Jim, Dirk and Martin for looking in....
A little more to add from yesterday.
The Engine and cockpit frames have been joined together and no problems to report over the fit as this was perfect.
Did some work on the pilot don't laugh figure painting isn't my thing... just a tad more to do on it then a thin coat of smoke to dull it down.
Time for a test fitting of the fuselage with engine and cockpit in situ..
Everything looks like it will go together without much problem and after the tail wheel is added and the fuselage halves are joined I will add a bit of extra wiring to the engine.
Regards
Mark

Re: Titan's 2012 Table Top.
Some extra generic wiring added to the engine area.....
The machine guns and bays are now complete and will be ready for inserting into the lower wings.
And the wheel bay has been painted and a black wash applied to it.
From what I can gather the hurricane bays were supposed to be painted interior green from mid 1940 onwards but there are always exceptions but I chose to paint it interior green, the actual undercarriage legs and the interior of the U/C covers will remain silver though.

I always got the feeling with such kits, that I was being educated as to the real structure of the aircraft.
Lovely work, Mark, lovely indeed.

Re: Titan's 2012 Table Top.
This is one of the best kits of its era and you're really doing it proud. Absolutely stunning Can't wait to see the rest of the build.

Re: Titan's 2012 Table Top.
Thanks guys for the comments on this build so far and things are moving along quite nicely which did surprised me a little considering how old this mould is, but things are slotting into place without much coercion which has left me more than impressed with it.
Just general bits of painting to add...Starting with the prop.
A black wash applied and then the spinner added..
The exhaust stubs were painted with Tamiya hull red and the outlets painted silver...
Then I oversprayed them with a very thin mixture of Revell enamel brass...
Then undercarriage has been painted, tyres rubbed down with an emery board and then assembled.
Both then had a thin black wash added to them, the one as you are looking at it on the left had some of the wash removed and the same will be done to the one on the right.
The radiator cooler has been assembled...
And the wheel well has been glued to the lower wing...
The plan will be for tomorrow to get the wing completely assembled and join it to the fuselage.
The canopy has been out of klear now for the day so I should be able to get that masked up as well.
Regards
